A Conversation with Steve Weber

Part II: What can be Learned from Open Source Models and What to Pay Attention To

(Running time: 8:50)

In this part, Steve describes the principles that can be learned from the open source community, such as sophisticated views of property and low barriers to entry enabling meritocracy- "the only thing that matters between you and me is the quality of our code." He advises businesses to be careful of technologies, such as affiliative sorting, that result in a narrowing not a widening of perspective. "Businesses need to be very thoughtful about how truth is manufactured out of these affiliative sorting mechanisms."
